Sunday Chat with Dr. Williams

Health Bytes

Your immune system

I remembered watching the movie by Robin Williams titled “Patch Adams” in 1998. Since then, I’ve watched it a couple of times more. This is a real life story of Hunter Adams, founder of the Gesundheit Institut. Convinced of the powerful connection between environment and wellness, he believes the health of an individual cannot be separated from the health of the family, community, and the world. Patch uses humor to “treat” his patients.

This brings us to the topic on immunity for today.

Do you know that everything in your life affects your immune system?

Your general nutrition does, your level of stress does, depression does, happiness does. The way you think actually has an effect on your immune system.

One of the most clear cut example of the experiences that we go through and the way we think and feel have an effect on our immune system was demonstrated when researchers took groups of people and had them watch a 20-minute video clip of Mother Theresa tending to her people in Calcutta.

They watch her as she prayed with the people. She didn’t have medicine with her. She didn’t change dressings or do wound care, but she attended to her people and connected with them.

Saliva samples were taken of the group before they went to watch the video. They did not know what they were going to watch. After watching for 20 minutes, another set of saliva sample was taken and the IgA immune globulin had doubled in everyone.

Just think: To be able to watch this and to boost your immune defenses in your GI tract, in your nose, in your upper respiratory tract. The IgA immune globulins that are there as the first layer of defense were doubled just by watching Mother Theresa!

Hence, it is indeed important to address all of the many factors in our life that affects our immune system.

Many people have written to Doc asking about the Full Immune Boost.

A cornerstone of the Think and Grow Rich Philosophy is that the more you give, the more you get. In everything you do – for your customers, your associates, your employees, your family – practice doing just a little more than is expected. You’ll stand out because there’s no traffic jam on the extra mile, and you’ll discover that service to others is one of life’s greatest riches. – Dr. Napoleon Hill
